HKDSA DanceSport Examination administered by The Hong Kong Examinations and Assessment Authority (HKEAA) : Examination Syllabus

The Commonwealth Society of Teachers of Dancing (CSTD) and Hong Kong DanceSport Association Limited (HKDSA) Joint Examination comprises :

 
Latin American Dance  - Samba             Level 1 to Level 8 Practical Examination
Latin American Dance  - Cha Cha Cha  Level 1 to Level 8 Practical Examination
Latin American Dance  - Rumba             Level 1 to Level 8 Practical Examination
Latin American Dance  - Paso Doble     Level 1 to Level 8 Practical Examination
Latin American Dance  - Jive                    Level 1 to Level 8 Practical Examination
 
Level 1 to Level 5 Practical Examination comprises 4 parts:
  
Part A: Music Rhythm

Three pieces of music of the related dance will be played, each with a duration of 20 seconds.  When each music starts, candidate should join in as soon as possible, counting the rhythm till the end of each music.

 
Part B: Figure
The examiner will require the candidate to dance each figure (listed in the syllabus) one by one. While dancing the figure, candidate has to say aloud the count of the figure.
 
Part C: Dance - Solo
One piece of music of the related dance will be played.  When music starts, candidate has to dance (solo) the routine (listed in the syllabus) at the correct rhythm of the music.
 
Part D: General
The examiner will assess the timing, rhythm, footwork, foot position, alignment, posture, presentation of the candidate.
   
Level 6 to Level 7 Practical Examination comprises 4 parts:
  
Part A: Figure
The examiner will require the candidate to dance each figure (listed in the syllabus) one by one. While dancing the figure, candidate has to say aloud the count of the figure.
 
Part B: Dance - Solo
One piece of music of the related dance will be played.  When music starts, candidate has to dance (solo) the routine (listed in the syllabus) at the correct rhythm of the music.
 
Part C: Dance - with Partner
One piece of music of the related dance will be played.  When music starts, candidate has to dance (with partner) the routine (listed in the syllabus) at the correct rhythm of the music.
 
Part D: General
The examiner will assess the timing, rhythm, footwork, foot position, alignment, posture, presentation of the candidate.
 
Level 8 Practical Examination comprises 4 parts:
 
Part A: Figure Examination
The examiner will require the candidate to dance each figure one by one. While dancing the figure, candidate has to say aloud the count of the figure.  
 
Part B: Dance - Solo
One piece of music of the related dance will be played.  When music starts, candidate has to dance (solo) the routine (listed in the syllabus) at the correct rhythm of the music.
  
Part C: Dance - with Partner
One piece of music of the related dance will be played.  When music starts, candidate has to dance (with partner) the routine at the correct rhythm of the music.

Candidate has to dance with a partner. The routine is choreographed to the chosen music. These examinations must be between 1.5 minutes and 2.5 minutes in duration. It is recommended that the examination be performed in public in costume.

 
Part D: General
The examiner will assess the timing, rhythm, footwork, foot position, alignment, posture, presentation of the candidate.
